Monday Morning Inspiration/Not Your Grandmother's Fur Part 2

Best laid plans, and then things don't go as you had hoped. Gracie and I were just about to head out for our Sunday morning hike when I noticed that she was holding her head to the left, as though her ear was hurting. Upon closer inspection, I found that the inside of her ear was very swollen and hot. I dropped everything and headed straight to the emergency animal care hospital. Truth be told, I knida panicked. As it turns out, she has a blood vessel in her ear that has broken. Blood was drained from her ear, and we were given medicine. She now has a fleece sleeve over her head that helps to keep her from shaking her head. Poor dog, she's miserable, and my heart is aching.

I had planned to do a special post this morning along with a video, but my day is already getting away from me, so be sure to pop back by tomorrow as I think you will especially enjoy what I have to share.

On Saturday, I was in Indianapolis, speaking to the Indianapolis American Sewing Guild. I had been asked to do my talk on working with fur. The response was wonderful, and I could see that they couldn't wait to get home and look at the pieces that have been languishing in their closets. I love it when I can spread a little inspiration :)

I've had a number of people ask me about where to gain a little inspiration, so I did last week's Monday Morning post on fur inspiration, and I thought I would do one more today. Now, if you don't care for the real thing, not a problem, there are so many beautiful faux furs on the market today, and the ideas translate to faux fur as beautifully as they do to real fur.

I love the mix of material with this coat...wool, tapestry and a sheered fur.

This is all out glamorous!

A fun trim on a leather jacket.

Mixing fur with a sweater knit is a great option.

The quilted leather is a show stopper.

Another fur mixed with a sweater knit.

I actually think the black is a fur, but this would be beautiful in velvet.

Mixing different types of fur with wool.

This coat from Missoni is, well, all I can say is WOW!

Last week I told you about a black faux fur that I have had for years, and just can't seem to part with. I have no idea why I have such a devotion to this coat. Anyway, I no longer wear it as it's at a point that I either need to do something with it, or find it a new home.

I've decided to do something with it. A friend of mine gave me this beautiful trim. I have 7 yards, so quite a bit. Not exactly sure what I'll do, but, well...I don't know, I just don't know what I'll do!!!, but I am really inspired by the Missoni coat. First step is to take the coat apart and then I think it will speak to me.

For anyone who might be interested, I will be doing a 3 day class in Winter Park, Colorado, March 22-24, 2018. It will be a full 3 days of working on fur, or faux fur. I'll have more details up a little later this week. It will be a super fun class!

I'm off to care for my poor pup.
Hope your week is off to a fabulous start!
Rhonda

  1. Sorry about your dog :( Hopefully she's all healed up, soon.

Missoni always does incredible work. That coat is beautiful. I also really like the first one and the first combo with leather. It looks ridiculously luxe!

I too love the fur posts. I’ve gained so much inspiration. I feel a little guilty as I feel I get more out of the posts than anyone!

  3. So sorry your pup is having ear trouble. I hope it resolves soon. Thank you for sharing these lovely coats. Do you know the maker of the first one? I absolutely love it. It reminds me of the coats with which I fell in love from Dr. Zhivago - especially Tonia's pink one with fur trim. Thanks for sharing these with us. Your trim is lovely.

  6. I hope Miss Gracie is feeling better. We have had three dogs over the years with an ear hematoma. Poor dears but they all healed just fine.

    1. The ear hematoma was something I had never heard of. They told me that it especially happens to dogs with larger ears who shake quite a bit. I never realized that Gracie shakes her body as much as she does. I cringe every time she shakes now. She's doing a little better. They had the cone tied to her neck with a piece of gauze. I threw that away and put one of my pretty scarves through the loops. No reason not to look pretty, even if you are wearing a cone around your head ;)
